Important
sculptures can be seen outside the Cathedral of San Pardo which,
built in 1300 and extended in 1319, is, together with the Roman
amphitheatre and the ducal palace, a monument that has become a symbol
of the place.

The
Cathedral of S. Pardo |
The sheer
portal, set in a pseudoportico, is adorned with
a lunette depicting the crucifixion. At the top, the large rose window
shows magnificent detail, being flanked by two biforas notable for their
elegant columns. Both the portal and the large rose window display are
flanked by sculptures of griffins and lions.
Inside, the church is
divided into three naves. The walls, probably once completely frescoed,
still show traces of frescos of the 14th and 16th
centuries (Annunciation) and are hung with paintings of artists
such as il Solimena, il Ribera, il Giordano.
