 ITINERARY 1

From Pietrabbondante to San Giovanni in Galdo

Pietrabbondante - Amphitheatre

At Pietrabbondante, in the uplands of the Molise, we find the remains of the most imposing site of Samnite buildings: a temple and other religious buildings (4th and 1st C. BC). More modest in size, the temple of Hercules (2nd C. BC) can be visited at Vastogirardi. In the province of Campobasso an urbanised settlement (4th-3rd C. BC) was unearthed at Montevairano in the borough of Busso. In the countryside around San Giovanni in Galdo are the remains of an Italic temple of the 2nd-1st century BC.

 ITINERARY 2

From Venafro to Santa Maria di Casalpiano (Morrone del Sannio)

Buildings arranged in a circle preserve the forms of the amphitheatre of Venafro. At Isernia, the podium of the Roman temple on which St. Peter's cathedral was built can still be seen. The restored country can be visited at Roccavivara. Moving back inland, the municipium of Sepino (1st C. BC) is a typical example of Roman residential building.

Morrone

Country villa

An amphitheatre (3rd – 2nd C. BC) and a collection of mosaics recall the classical age at Larino. The rooms of a country villa (2nd C. BC) are preserved at Morrone del Sannio.
