A prominent figure in the
history of the art of the Molise is Paolo Gamba (Ripabottoni - CB -
1712-1782). When very young he was a pupil of Francesco Solimena, at
Naples. In the Molise he started a prolific activity. His painting
always remained linked to the modules of Solimena, with a natural predisposition for heightening the chiaroscuro effect. The large number
of commissions, during a period of almost non-stop artistic production,
led to an inconsistency of results. This can be see in the paintings to
be found in the religious buildings of the region.
