Modern
art, in the Molise, has produced personalities of high standing, capable
of using colours and images to give form to a sensitivity which has not
always found the right space in which to manifest itself. Landscapes,
portraits, scenes of everyday life tell of a past reality through very
hard trials and tribulations imposed by events that took place from the
19th century through to the present day. Part of this
experience has come together to talk about religion which, albeit with
its dramas, always allows a glimmer of hope; part instead has fostered a
hard realism, sometimes painted with coldness, other times with
participation. In other cases, the actual image has been put to one
side, to give space to pure and simple colour contrast, while
maintaining the same narrative intensity. The contemporary period shows
the interaction between artistic paths that focus on the visible forms
of reality and others that deform it. All this has created a universe
which is never uniform or stable in the languages it uses and in the
ways it manifests itself.
