In
1990 Casacalenda (CB) saw the materialisation of an original
idea: adapting places and streets of the old part of the town, and sites
on its outskirts that lent themselves to the purpose, to an
extraordinary open-air museum. After further development of the
innovative venture, primarily to give strength to the basic concept of
artistic workshop, the Civic Gallery of Modern Art was set
up to hold and display paintings and other works, conceived as such, in
the true spirit of the artist's creation. Nowadays Kalenarte is all this
and also debates, publications, experiments, temporary exhibitions. An
institution, more than an annual event, capable of venturing into the
use of languages which step far beyond the regional and national borders,
capturing the attention of artists famous for the original style of
their masterpieces, the specialised press, the most qualified art
critics and the whole host of art enthusiasts and art lovers.
