The
remains of a large apse and other ruins from the Romanesque period,
constitute a valid testimony of the importance once held by the abbey of
Casalpiano, in the area around Morrone, founded around the end of
the first millennium by the Benedictine monks of Monte Cassino.

It was
built using, in part, the structures of a Roman country villa, which has
been unearthed, together with precious archaeological finds, after a
long campaign of excavations.
