 Sant'Antonio Abate

17th January is the date on which the people remember Sant’Antonio Abate, called in the jargon of the Molise Sand'Anduone. He is the saint of fire, of pigs, of the begging chants.

The evening before the feast, at Colli a Volturno and at Frosolone (in the Acquevive quarter), beggars spontaneously form groups and go round the houses singing songs to the accompaniment of guitars and accordions. The people give them food, wine and money. Elsewhere, as at Forlì del Sannio, bonfires are lit and ritual foods are eaten.
